Naming Across Cultures (Intro Course)
Naming Across Cultures
Duration: ~45 minutes Format: Reading + short reflection prompts
Module 1 — Origins and living languages
Names travel. A name that is common in one region may be rare or carry different associations elsewhere. Always ask:
- Is this spelling/pronunciation used by speakers of the language today?
- Does the meaning still feel positive and accurate?
Module 2 — Family, diaspora, and dual heritage
Many families blend traditions. Useful questions:
- Which ancestors or places do we want to honor?
- Which names work in both (or all) of our languages?
Reflection
Write down three names that feel like “home” and three that feel like “bridge.” Compare them on Name.li.
